What type of commercial settings should you consider having commercial flooring installed?

Any commercial settings or businesses that have a high footfall so their flooring will need to be sturdy and long-lasting, susceptible to spills and or dirt, if heavy furniture or machinery is installed in the area and many more reasons. Industries can include; healthcare, education, hospitality, leisure, retail and business complexes.

What types of Commercial Flooring options are there?

Every industry and every business are different therefore flooring needs will vary hugely. CW Jones will spend time with you to understand your business, its needs and offer suitable commercial flooring options for you to consider giving you the benefits and disadvantages of each.

Commercial flooring can include; commercial carpet, carpet tiles, wood, vinyl, laminate, Whiterock cladding, safety flooring and coved skirting.

What is Commercial Safety Flooring?

Safety flooring is similar to vinyl and the benefits are that it is easy to maintain and clean, whilst also offering a much greater anti-slip surface making it a great choice for sports halls and busy corridors and where Health & Safety needs state it is a must.

Commercial Flooring Considerations

Your Business Needs

When you are looking at commercial flooring or considering replacing your current flooring you should list the needs and legal requirements for your business when it comes to the flooring. Many factors go into your decision so you should always use a commercial flooring expert and don’t ever make a decision on a whim or because it’s the cheapest option as you will end up having to replace it earlier than you would have done.

Examples of the questions you should ask yourself are:

• Do you have slip ratings to meet when it comes to Health & safety?

• What aesthetic look and feel are you looking for?

• How do you keep your floor clean and how often?

• Will heavy equipment will be added to the area?

• What is budget, how long does it need to last?

Health and Safety

The most important decision you should make about your commercial flooring is in regard to health and safety to protect your business, your employees, your customers and suppliers. A key decision should be made around slip rating and this is determined by foot traffic and who and what will be using the area.

Foot Traffic

The amount of foot traffic you have along with health & safety, cleaning and maintenance is one of your key decisions as if you make the right decision your floor will stay looking new and professional for longer, as well as you not needing to replace it before you should have to. High foot traffic areas will need longer lasting more durable flooring and this can be commercial carpet, carpet tiles or laminate.

Noise

A major factor for businesses should be the noise consideration and which types of flooring will amplify or dampen the noise within your business or commercial property, this is especially important in retail and manufacturing settings.

As an example, having ceramic floor tiles installed in a retail area where trolleys and customers walking on will be amplified is not a good idea and there is also the slip factor to take into consideration as well as a 2-tonne forklift truck moving across a ceramic floor and will it rise above the loudest acceptable noise barrier in a manufacturing environment?

Company Image and Aesthetics

An important factor to consider is your company image and the aesthetics you want to achieve in your setting. It can be easy to rush your decision and pick the flooring option that meets every one of your needs but not how your new flooring will make your space look and feel. There is a commercial floor to suit every need and every look and it’s about understanding all of your needs and having help from a commercial flooring expert like CW Jones who can advise and support you make your decision.

There are thousands of variations and designs to choose from and you can also choose flooring which incorporates your brand, logo and product images.

Cleaning Requirements

Cleaning and maintenance are a big factor when making your commercial flooring decision, how often can the floor be cleaned, how hygienic does it need to be, how long do you have for the floor to be cleaned and will there be any chemicals used in the areas. The availability of a busy working environment can lead to certain types of flooring being chosen and future-proofing a regular cleaning routine will all come into play when you are deciding which commercial flooring option to choose and install.

Commercial Flooring Cost Considerations

Many commercial property owners and businesses will consider the cost outlay of their commercial flooring as a major factor; however, you should always think about the cost in terms of overall value over a set time rather than just the immediate outlay.

At CW Jones we understand that replacing your flooring can be expensive, but even more so if you have to replace it in a couple of years it can be a huge outlay that isn’t or shouldn’t be needed if you have chosen the right flooring in the first place. CW Jones are experts in commercial flooring and can help you decide which is the best flooring for your commercial property or business.
